Volute Wine sponsors the VIP reception of the 2008 Brower Youth Awards, the premier environmental youth prize in North America. A Latina student in Chicago battling industrial polluters, a recent college graduate working to halt the devastation of mountaintop coal mining, and a young woman restoring a migratory bird corridor in Costa Rica are among the six winners of the Awards. At the Brower Youth Awards Ceremony, 900 members of the Bay Area youth and eco-community gathered to celebrate the young green leaders. VIP guests and honorees were treated to a festive, eco-friendly reception in the Green Room. The Brower Youth Awards is hosted by the Earth Island Institute, incubator of more than 100 environmental projects including Rainforest Action Network, Julia Butterfly Hill’s Circle of Life, and dolphin-safe tuna champions International Marine Mammal Project. The awards honor the legacy of Earth Island’s founder David Brower who helped to save and preserve the Grand Canyon, King’s Canyon, Cape Cod, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and Point Reyes. He helped to create the World Heritage System and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times in 1978, 1979, and 1998. October 21, 2008
